How it works

Nobody knows what it cost.
Except you.

There is no price on anything here. You tell us what a piece is worth to you. If we accept, we make it, number it, and seal the value inside a certificate only you can open.

01

Get an invitation.

Could Cost More. is not sold in the open. Request an invitation, or use a code someone gave you. We reply within 7 days.

02

Choose the piece.

Six bags, three garments, four pieces for men. Each one is an edition of 1,000 worldwide.

03

Tell us why.

A few lines. Why this piece, why you. We read every one.

04

Name your value.

Any amount, in euros. No suggestions, no minimum shown, no range. Your offer is private and non-binding: sending it costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

05

We decide.

We review offers at the close of each production run. Some are accepted, some are not. We do not explain why, in the same way you do not have to explain why you like it. If it is not accepted, you can make a new offer in the next run.

06

You confirm and pay.

If accepted, you receive an email with your number, the delivery date and a secure payment link, valid for 72 hours. Nothing is charged until you pay through that link.

07

We make it. It gets its number.

Your piece is made in the next production run in Portugal and Spain. Its number (for example M03 · 047/1000) appears in the public Register. The value never does.

08

You receive the sealed certificate.

It arrives with the piece. The value you paid is printed inside, sealed. You decide whether anyone ever sees it.

Same object.
Different value.
Different owner.

Two people can carry the same bag. One may have paid ten times more than the other. Neither will ever know which one they are.

Questions

Is this an auction?
No. You are not competing against anyone. There is no timer, no ranking, no highest offer. Your value is compared with nothing but our decision to make the piece.
Is there a minimum?
We do not publish one. Some offers are not accepted. That is part of what makes the accepted ones mean something.
Will anyone see what I paid?
No. Not on the website, not in the Register, not on the piece. Only you, on your certificate and your invoice.
Can I make several offers?
One offer per piece per production run.
What if I change my mind?
Before paying, simply do not pay. After paying, you can cancel until it ships, and you have 30 days to return it once it arrives (see Returns).
Can two people pay different amounts for the same model?
Yes. That is the whole idea.
What happens to the number if I return it?
The number is retired. It appears in the Register as “Returned” and is never assigned again.
Can I sell or give away my piece?
Yes. The certificate goes with it. The new owner can register the transfer (see The sealed certificate).
Where is it made?
In Portugal and Spain. Every piece’s page states where it is made and where it is printed.

No price. You name your value. Only you will ever know it.
